For families
What is Mativa?
Mativa is a specialized directory of therapists who focus on in perinatal mental health: fertility, pregnancy, birth, postpartum, loss, and early parenthood. Every therapist here works exclusively in perinatal care, so you are choosing from true specialists, not scrolling a phone book.
Is Mativa free to use?
Yes. Browsing, searching, and contacting therapists costs nothing. Therapists pay a membership to be listed, which is how the directory stays free for families. Membership never buys placement, and the standard is the same for everyone.
What kind of therapists are on Mativa?
Every therapist who joins works specifically in perinatal mental health: pregnancy, loss, postpartum, fertility, and early parenthood, not as one focus among many. General therapists who also occasionally see new parents do not make the cut.
How do I choose the right therapist?
Start with what you are carrying: browse by stage or specialty, read a few profiles, and trust your read on fit. We also wrote a guide on how to choose a perinatal therapist, including what to ask in a first consultation call.
Do these therapists take insurance?
Some do, and many specialists are out-of-network and provide superbills you can submit to your insurer for reimbursement. Each profile lists rates and insurance details, and most therapists offer a brief consultation call where money questions are completely welcome.
Can I see someone virtually?
Yes. Many Mativa therapists offer virtual sessions, and you can filter for them in the directory. A therapist must be licensed in the state where you are located, so virtual care generally works within the states listed on their profile.
Is Mativa only for moms?
No. Dads, partners, LGBTQ+ families, single parents by choice, and anyone touched by fertility, pregnancy, or loss belong here. Many of our therapists work specifically with couples, fathers, and non-gestational parents.
What if I am in crisis right now?
Mativa is a directory, not an emergency service. If you are in crisis, call or text 988, or reach Postpartum Support International at 1-800-944-4773. More options are on our crisis resources page.
For therapists
Who can join Mativa?
Licensed mental health clinicians, including LCSW, LMFT, LPC, LMHC, psychologists, and similar credentials, with genuine perinatal specialization and licensure to serve New York clients.
How does the application work?
You apply through the join page with your license details, training, and practice information. You tell us about your license and your perinatal specialization, and you hear back once a real person has read your application.
What does membership include?
A full profile in the directory, a private dashboard with live stats (profile views, search impressions, website clicks, and saves), self-serve profile editing, and placement across the stage, specialty, and approach pages that match your practice.
What does membership cost?
Mativa is a simple flat membership, with current details shared during the application process. There are no referral fees, no pay-per-lead, and no paying for better placement.
How do clients reach me?
Directly. Your profile links straight to your own booking page or website, and inquiries go to you. Mativa never sits in the middle of your client relationships.
Is the directory capped?
Yes, intentionally. Mativa stays small and focused so every listing means something. When an area of specialization is full, we hold a waitlist rather than dilute the list.
